Chapter 49: Are You Insulting My Intelligence?
Chen Xian nodded, preparing to wait for Director Zhao to finish his examination. If Zhao could cure Luna, Chen would save his spiritual energy and not intervene.
As the saying goes, speak of the devil and he appears.
At that moment, a middle-aged man in a black suit, with thick-rimmed glasses and a hooked nose, approached from the villa’s back door. He carried a medical kit marked with a red cross on his back.
“Director Zhao, what’s the verdict?” Xu Ruyuan quickly stood up to inquire as soon as she saw him.
Director Zhao shook his head and sighed, “Mrs. Zhang, that Siamese cat is already at death’s door. Not even a miracle could save it. I am powerless.”
The diamond-eyed cat was also known as the Siamese cat.
Upon hearing this, Xu Ruyuan’s face dimmed, and she was left stunned.
The diamond-eyed cat had been part of her family for years. It was no longer just a pet, but had become an integral part of her and Xiaohan’s lives—a true family member.
If the diamond-eyed cat really died, how heartbroken Xiaohan would be!
“Sister Xu, don’t be sad. Let me take a look. I believe I can cure Princess Luna,” Chen Xian said with a gentle smile, seeing how troubled Xu Ruyuan was.
He spoke partly to comfort her, but also because he truly had the ability.
Before Xu Ruyuan could respond, Director Zhao snorted coldly, “Hmph, a mere boy dares to boast here. Aren’t you afraid your lies will catch up with you?”
Clearly displeased by Chen Xian's words, Zhao felt insulted.
He turned to Xu Ruyuan, “Mrs. Zhang, if I’d known you didn’t trust me, I wouldn’t have bothered coming today!”
“Director Zhao, I do trust you…” Xu Ruyuan said anxiously, unsure how to explain.
To invite Director Zhao to examine the diamond-eyed cat, she had called in favors and spent a considerable amount. He had only just returned from an academic conference abroad.
“What you cannot do does not mean others cannot,” Chen Xian replied, his lips curling with a hint of unrestrained confidence as he countered Director Zhao’s arrogant demeanor.
Director Zhao looked ready to explode, “Fine, let’s go to the garden behind the villa. I want to see how you plan to save this Siamese cat!”
“And if I cure the diamond-eyed cat?” Chen Xian looked at the furious Director Zhao.
“If you can cure it, I’ll apologize to you.”
“You should apologize,” Chen Xian said with a smile.
Director Zhao was fuming.
Xu Ruyuan, worried about the confrontation between Chen Xian and Director Zhao, grew anxious.
“Sister-in-law, take Chen Xian to see the cat first,” Zhang Xin reminded gently.
Xu Ruyuan nodded and led Chen Xian to the back of the villa. Director Zhao followed.
Behind the villa was a small garden. A little girl with jet-black hair, dressed in a princess dress, and a little white dog squatted in front of a cat house, their backs to the group.
Before her stood a beautifully crafted cat house. Inside, a cat as white as freshly fallen snow, without a single blemish in its fur, lay on a blanket, eyes closed and listless.
“Princess Luna, please open your eyes and look at Xiaohan!”
“Xiaohan wants to play with you. Don’t ignore me!”
“Princess Luna… sob sob…”
Zhang Xiaohan’s childish voice broke into sobs, and tears rolled down her cheeks, tugging at the heartstrings of all who saw her.
The snow-white cat inside the cat house, however, seemed completely unresponsive, as if deaf to the world.
Xu Ruyuan’s heart ached watching her beloved daughter so sorrowful.
“Xiaohan, don’t cry. Brother Chen Xian is here. He’s very skilled and will surely cure Princess Luna,” Zhang Xin stepped forward to comfort her.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Xiaohan lifted her tear-stained face and looked at Chen Xian, pleading, “Brother Chen Xian, please help Princess Luna!”
Woof woof!
The little white dog beside her barked, as if also begging Chen Xian for help.
“Don’t cry, Xiaohan. I promise I’ll cure her for you,” Chen Xian gently patted the girl’s soft, tender cheek, giving her a confident smile.
Director Zhao stood nearby, full of disdain, inwardly scoffing: If this boy can cure the Siamese cat, I’ll write my surname backwards!
Chen Xian knelt down and carefully lifted the white cat from the cat house.
The cat’s fur was extraordinarily fine, like the best silk—a rare breed, clearly. Yet now, it was utterly lethargic, unable even to open its eyes, its body cold, gravely ill.
In truth, Chen Xian had no idea what illness afflicted the cat.
But he possessed spiritual energy cultivated through the Supreme Chaos Technique—nearly omnipotent energy. Restoring a gravely ill cat to health was, for him, a simple matter.
Holding the diamond-eyed cat in one arm, Chen Xian gently stroked its back and legs with the other hand, quietly channeling a thread of spiritual energy from his spiritual wheel space and carefully infusing it into the cat’s body.
At first, the Siamese cat showed no reaction and remained listless.
Director Zhao watched the youngster’s performance and sneered, “Boy, do you have any idea what illness the cat has? I’d love to hear your expert opinion.”
Chen Xian ignored Director Zhao’s arrogance. After injecting spiritual energy into the Siamese cat, he knelt and placed it back on the blanket. Facing Zhang Xiaohan, he smiled, “Xiaohan, Princess Luna is cured.”
“Brother Chen Xian, really?” The little girl gazed at him with tearful, wide eyes.
Chen Xian nodded, “Really. Big brother never lies.”
“Then why hasn’t Princess Luna opened her eyes yet?” Zhang Xiaohan asked in her childish voice.
Chen Xian smiled mysteriously, “Very soon, Luna will wake up and play with you.”
“Hmph! Are you insulting our intelligence?” Director Zhao said coldly. “You think you’re some immortal, that a simple touch can heal a cat at death’s door? Ridiculous!”
Xu Ruyuan’s eyes were full of doubt and confusion. Director Zhao was probably right; Chen Xian hadn’t used any medicine—how could he possibly cure a gravely ill Siamese cat?
Only Zhang Xin’s beautiful eyes hinted at a deeper understanding.
Chen Xian paid no mind to Director Zhao and silently counted in his heart, “One, two, three, four…”
When he reached “ten,” a clear, melodious meow suddenly sounded.
Meow~
The white cat suddenly opened its eyes, revealing a pair of stunning, extraordinary orbs—like two diamonds.
The left eye was blue, shining with the allure of a sapphire; the right eye was green, dazzling like an emerald.
At this moment, the diamond-eyed cat showed no trace of illness, full of vitality. It even cast a grateful look at Chen Xian.
Zhang Xin, Xu Ruyuan, and Zhang Xiaohan were all stunned.
