Chapter 47: House Hunting [Third Update]
Once Chen Xian had the idea, he acted immediately, searching for a watering can and filling it with tap water. He infused a few strands of spiritual energy into the water; outwardly, it looked unchanged, but now the water contained spiritual energy within. Chen Xian picked up the watering can and began to water the potted plants.
Twenty minutes later, every one of the bonsai, fish, and insects had been completely restored, their foliage lush and vibrant, brimming with newfound vitality. And yet, Chen Xian had only used five strands of spiritual energy in total. If he had relied on his old method, the energy spent would have been far greater.
Satisfied, Chen Xian nodded, his gaze lingering on the watering can as a bold new idea sparked in his mind: Spiritual energy enhances vitality. In the future, I could sell spiritual water for profit—a single small bottle would surely fetch a high price!
The more he thought about it, the more excited he became, as if he were glimpsing a road paved with immense wealth. However, even if selling spiritual water could make him rich, Chen Xian was not yet ready to do so. It was unthinkable to infuse his hard-earned, special spiritual energy into water and sell it off bottle by bottle. The energy he cultivated was barely enough to improve his own strength—how could he consider selling it?
Moreover, the spiritual energy refined through his Supreme Chaos Scripture was unique, endowed with miraculous effects: detoxification, nourishing life, healing illnesses, and more. He would never casually sell such a treasure.
If he were to sell spiritual water, it would be after he had set up a small spirit-gathering array. Then, by placing water within the formation, the water could naturally absorb spiritual energy, which he could then simply bottle and sell.
All at once, Chen Xian felt an overwhelming desire to set up the small spirit-gathering array. Once completed, not only would it accelerate his cultivation, but it would also bring in substantial wealth. Whether selling spiritual water or raising rare flowers, birds, fish, and insects within the array, the prospects were all outstanding.
It took him a while to calm his excitement. He glanced at the storage ring on his ring finger. With a thought, a vortex condensed upon it, and a chest was spit out from the swirling void, landing before him.
Chen Xian opened the chest and looked over the wild ginseng, lingzhi mushrooms, jade stones, and the invitation letter inside. In his mind, the broodmother of the Breath-Stealing Worm sensed the rich spiritual energy within the ginseng, lingzhi, and jade, and grew restless, eager to come out and devour them all.
But Chen Xian did not let the broodmother out. Whether it was the wild ginseng, the lingzhi, or the energy-rich jade, he intended to keep them for now. Now that he possessed the mysterious tree, he wanted to wait until he obtained the alchemy manual; perhaps the five-hundred-year-old ginseng and four-hundred-year-old lingzhi could be used for pill refining.
Throughout the entire planet, resources were alarmingly scarce. Even finding one-hundred-year-old ginseng or lingzhi was nearly impossible, let alone specimens several centuries old.
If they could be used for alchemy, it would be a waste to simply refine them directly now.
After examining everything, Chen Xian closed the chest and returned it to the storage ring. He took out his phone and glanced at the time—it was already past one in the morning.
“Tomorrow, I still have to take my parents and sister to see the new house. That’s enough for today,” he murmured to himself. Sitting cross-legged, he began circulating the Supreme Chaos Scripture, drawing in what little spiritual energy the heavens and earth had to offer.
On his way back from M City to H City, Chen Xian had called his parents to let them know he would take them to see the new house in the morning.
The next morning, Chen Xian washed up briefly, ate a little breakfast, then took Enchantress Cat and hailed a cab to the North City Community.
When he reached his family’s door, he knocked softly. The door swung open to reveal his sister, Chen Nizi, dressed today in a brand-new denim outfit with white sneakers, looking fresh and full of youthful charm.
“Big Brother!” Nizi greeted him affectionately, a pair of adorable dimples lighting up her face.
Chen Xian’s lips curled in a gentle smile as he reached out and pinched her cheek fondly. “Nizi, you’re looking very pretty today!”
“Of course! We’re going to see our new home today—I had to dress up nicely,” Chen Nizi replied, her bright eyes catching sight of the Enchantress Cat in his arms. She couldn’t take her eyes off the kitten, exclaiming in wonder, “Wow, Big Brother, what a beautiful little kitty! Where did you get her? What’s her name? Can I hold her?”
“Her name is Little Enchantress. I bought her,” Chen Xian replied, gently stroking the cat’s head. “Enchantress, let Nizi hold you for a bit.”
Meow~
The Enchantress Cat raised her head, sapphire eyes glancing at Chen Nizi, then at Chen Xian, and haughtily declared, “If you want to hold this princess, bring snacks first—otherwise, no hugs!”
To Chen Nizi’s ears, it was nothing but a lovely meow.
Chen Xian, hearing the kitten’s childish voice, couldn’t help but laugh. He told his sister, “Nizi, go get some snacks. Enchantress wants you to feed her some before she’ll let you hold her.”
“Oh, what a cute little fairy!” Chen Nizi exclaimed in surprise. “Big Brother, you can understand cat language?”
Chen Xian grinned. “I’ve been with Enchantress for a while and I understand her expressions and habits well.”
He told a harmless lie.
Nizi nodded and hurried off to her room to fetch some snacks.
Chen Xian stepped into the house and saw his father and mother in the living room, both dressed in their “best” clothes—his father in a suit and leather shoes, his mother in a wool coat and leather shoes, their hair specially styled. They looked solemn and spirited.
“Dad, Mom, let’s go,” Chen Xian said with a smile.
Both parents nodded, their faces glowing with gentle, affectionate smiles.
Just then, Nizi came running out with a bag of cookies and a box of chips. Faced with this barrage of sweet bribes, the Enchantress Cat surrendered, curling up in Nizi’s arms to enjoy her snacks.
The family headed downstairs and greeted their neighbors, who asked where they were headed.
Pride and delight lit up the wrinkled faces of his parents. “We’re going to see the house Xian bought,” they replied, brimming with happiness.
The neighbors looked on in shock and envy, praising Chen Xian for his success—imagine, a university student earning enough to buy a house!
They hailed a taxi and the four of them set off toward the community beside XX High School.
When they arrived at the home Chen Xian had bought, his father, mother, and sister stepped inside. Seeing the new decor, they explored every corner, touching everything, just like a country aunt visiting a grand estate for the first time.
After thoroughly inspecting every inch of the house, the family finally gathered in the living room.
“Dad, Mom, Nizi, are you happy with the house?” Chen Xian asked with a smile.
His mother, smiling with tears welling in her eyes, choked up as she replied, “Happy—how could we not be? This three-bedroom, two-living-room, one-hundred-square-meter home is heaven!”
“Lan Hua, today is an auspicious day, seeing our new home. Why are you crying?” Father Chen Changhe said with a hint of reproach as he looked at his wife.
Though he spoke those words, his own eyes were red, his voice catching with emotion.
“Dad! Mom’s tears are tears of happiness—they’re tears of joy!” Chen Nizi said with a smile.
Perhaps moved by her parents’ emotion, tears began to stream uncontrollably from her own large eyes as well.
“Yes, these are tears of joy, tears of happiness!” her mother echoed, smiling through her tears.
Seeing his parents and sister like this, Chen Xian felt a deep and unexplainable ache in his heart…
