Chapter 32: Little Charmer!
Chen Xian gazed at the dazzling red fruit hanging on the strange tree in his mind, an uncontrollable smile spreading across his face.
“I wonder what kind of treasure is hidden within this fruit?”
With anticipation in his heart, he extended his consciousness toward the fruit and whispered, “Harvest!”
The fiery red fruit fell in response, and as it descended, it suddenly split in two with a crisp crack.
A mass of black emerged, radiating a gentle, obsidian glow.
“What is this?” Chen Xian’s curiosity was piqued.
At that moment, the black mass stirred; a tiny head poked out, its pointed ears folded down, and its large, sapphire-blue eyes sparkled with enchanting light, brimming with intelligence.
Meow~
A crisp call rang out.
Only then did Chen Xian realize that the black mass was a folded-eared kitten curled up adorably, its cry enough to melt anyone’s heart.
“This is a Charm Cat. It’s swift, adept at bewitching others, and not lacking in attack power. If one falls under the spell of a Charm Cat, they lose both reason and the will to fight.
Among Charm Cats, the most exalted is the Nine-tailed Charm Cat. The one before you is a juvenile with royal Nine-tailed blood and currently possesses the power of a ninth-level Spirit Practitioner.
To make it your spirit companion, you must form a Blood-Soul Pact. The method is as follows…
Normally, your spiritual strength would be insufficient to subdue a Charm Cat, but since this one was born of your tree, and you are the tree’s master, you may form the pact.”
At this moment, a mysterious consciousness once more imparted knowledge of the Charm Cat to Chen Xian.
Upon learning this, Chen Xian was elated.
Not only was the Charm Cat powerful, but it was also irresistibly cute—a combination sure to win anyone’s affection.
With a thought, he summoned an object from his brow, which landed in his palm.
Opening his eyes, he found in his hand a kitten the size of a fist, carved from black jade—or so it seemed. This was the Charm Cat cub, bearer of royal blood.
Meow~
Chen Xian looked at it, and it gazed back at him with deep blue eyes, unblinking and filled with curiosity—a picture of innocence.
He reached out and stroked its back. The fur was as fine as the best silk, smooth and warm to the touch, a genuine pleasure to feel.
At the same time, faint, pleasant fragrance wafted from the little body of the Charm Cat.
“From now on, I’ll call you ‘Little Charm’, how about that?” He looked at the kitten, inquiring gently.
If the Charm Cat disliked the name, he was ready to choose another.
Meow~
Upon hearing this, the Charm Cat’s eyes lit up with delight, and it nodded its little head with remarkable understanding, its folded ears twitching.
Seeing its approval, Chen Xian fondly patted its small head.
Then he walked to the roadside, away from prying eyes, and said to the kitten, “Don’t wander off. I’ll form the Blood-Soul Pact with you right away!”
Saying so, Chen Xian set Little Charm down.
The Charm Cat nodded, squatted on the ground, its sapphire eyes spinning with curiosity, like an adorable and inquisitive baby.
It seemed entirely unbothered by the prospect of forming a Blood-Soul Pact.
Chen Xian surmised that this was all thanks to the mysterious tree in his mind.
He then pricked his fingertip, letting a drop of crimson blood fall onto the Charm Cat’s head. Closing his eyes, he formed seals with his hands in a dance of intricate gestures, as instructed by the mysterious consciousness…
Minutes later, circles of red light radiated from the kitten’s small body, the blood quickly merging into its head.
Not long after, Chen Xian opened his eyes, joy gleaming within them.
He had successfully formed the Blood-Soul Pact with the Charm Cat. Now, he held its life and death in his hands—one thought could let it live, another could end its existence.
Of course, faced with such an adorable creature, Chen Xian would never allow harm to come to it.
Meow~
The Charm Cat called out. To others, it was a simple meow, but to Chen Xian, it was something else entirely.
“Master, Little Charm is hungry. Is there anything tasty?” The voice was pure and childlike.
Chen Xian paused in surprise. How marvelous—after forming the Blood-Soul Pact, he could understand cat speech.
Gathering his thoughts, he apologized, “Little Charm, I’m sorry. I don’t have any food with me right now.”
At this, the Charm Cat pouted its pink mouth, looking a little unhappy.
Even so, its sulky expression was irresistibly cute.
Unable to bear its disappointment, Chen Xian said, “Little Charm, once the taxi arrives and we head into the county, I’ll buy you something delicious. How does that sound?”
Hearing this, the kitten bobbed its head enthusiastically, its folded ears swaying. “Yes, yes!”
Chen Xian picked up Little Charm and continued walking toward GN County.
Bored along the way, he asked curiously, “Little Charm, are you a boy or a girl?”
The Charm Cat glanced at its master, pouting, “No food, no answer for Master!”
Chen Xian’s eyes flickered with a sly smile. “If you won’t tell me, I’ll just check for myself!”
With that, he lifted the kitten by the scruff, intending to take a look.
The sapphire eyes flashed with panic and embarrassment, the black fur on its face almost turning red. Its four furry little legs kicked about as it meowed in protest.
“Master, put me down! I’ll tell you—I’m a girl, a girl!”
Upon hearing the kitten admit it, Chen Xian released her, suppressing a smile. “Little one, you should have just said so!”
Set back down, the Charm Cat’s big eyes brimmed with grievance and bashfulness. “Master, you’re too naughty. Meow!”
Beep, beep, beep!
An hour later.
The blare of a car horn sounded—the taxi driver had finally arrived.
The county town was now only about an hour and thirty minutes away, and the road had grown broader.
Chen Xian waved to the driver, opened the passenger door, and got in, while the Charm Cat gazed around the car’s interior with wide, curious eyes.
It was her first time aboard such a modern vehicle, and she couldn’t help but be intrigued.
“Sir, your cat is beautiful, especially those eyes—they look almost as if they could speak,” the taxi driver complimented.
Chen Xian simply smiled.
The taxi sped toward GN County.
Just then, the shrill wail of police sirens sounded behind them.
Soon, several police cars roared past. Through the window, Chen Xian saw that each one was packed with people—mostly gamblers.
Suddenly, a familiar gaze met his from one of the police car windows.
The owner of that look was Fang Jing.
When she spotted the young man with the buzz cut, her beautiful eyes widened in shock, unable to hide her surprise.
Chen Xian caught her glance, and the corners of his mouth lifted in a subtle smile.
