Chapter Ninety-One: Kill Him

The system muttered to itself in silence, “No way. Didn’t you save him?”

Chu Bing gave a cold snort and ignored it.

After what had happened before, she understood very well what kind of person Li Yuxi really was. He had absolutely no bottom line.

Chu Bing sat in silence, roasting fish, while her mind turned over and over. Was she really supposed to wait for Li Yuxi to wake up and kill her?

How foolish would that be?

Abruptly, she stood and walked step by step toward him.

She stopped in front of Li Yuxi and looked down at him from above, killing intent flashing at once in her eyes.

“Host, what are you planning to do?”

Chu Bing said coldly, “Of course I’m going to nip the danger in the bud!”

Rather than wait for Li Yuxi to wake and keep opposing her, she might as well kill him now and be done with it once and for all.

Chu Bing picked up a broken stone beside her foot and raised it high.

One strike, and Li Yuxi would be finished.

“Host, calm down. If you kill Li Yuxi now, where are you going to find news of Li Haoran?” the system cried anxiously in Chu Bing’s mind.

A flicker of struggle crossed Chu Bing’s eyes, but she still stubbornly said, “I can go find Li Mohan. He’ll be much easier to deal with than Li Yuxi!”

Besides, she had saved Li Mohan before. He would surely be willing to tell her where Li Haoran was.

The system fell silent for a moment, then its tone turned icy as well. “If you really want to kill him, I have no objection, as long as you can bring yourself to do it.”

Listen to that. It made her sound as if Chu Bing were some kind of softhearted saint.

Chu Bing snorted again and lifted the stone once more, then brought it crashing down toward Li Yuxi—only to stop in midair.

She looked at him with a complicated expression, gritted her teeth, tossed the stone aside, and plopped down onto the sofa. “Fine! I give up!”

If Li Yuxi woke up and wanted to kill her, so be it.

Who told her she was, just as the system said, too softhearted to lay a hand on such a bastard?

The system could not help but chuckle to itself, then comforted her. “Li Yuxi probably won’t kill you. Don’t be afraid.”

Perhaps because bystander eyes were clearer, it could see more than Chu Bing could.

Though Li Yuxi always played tricks on Chu Bing, they were all harmless pranks. Even before, when he had used Chu Bing to threaten Ren Changfeng, he had not truly put force into his sword. The wound on Chu Bing’s neck looked frightening,

but it was only a superficial injury. At most, it would heal completely in three days.

Chu Bing rolled her eyes and still refused to pay the system any mind.

The roasted fish had begun to smell fragrant. Chu Bing took a few bites and found it tasted pretty good.

Turning back to glance at Li Yuxi, who was still completely unconscious, she wore a complicated expression as she tore off two pieces of fish and walked over to his side, then rudely stuffed them into his mouth.

As for whether he could swallow them, that had nothing to do with her.

Chu Bing dusted off her hands and looked at Li Yuxi with a cold snort. “I’ve done everything I should. If you still can’t wake up, then that’s fate.”

What she did not notice was that Li Yuxi’s eyelashes were trembling faintly.

Night had already fallen completely, and the wind by the sea was especially cold. Chu Bing wrapped her arms around herself and turned in a circle, anxiety creeping into her face. Spending the night here would not do.

She had to find somewhere to shelter quickly.

At a time like this, the system was quite useful.

Chu Bing rolled her eyes and deliberately said with a frosty face, “System, you’d better tell me quickly where there’s a safe place for me and that bastard to spend the night. Otherwise... I’m quitting.”

The system knew Chu Bing was in a bad mood, and worried that if her temper flared she really would stop completing the task, so it did not waste words. It immediately gave her a location. “If you go now, there may be some trouble. Right now, you’re also carrying an extra burden.”

“Thanks for the reminder. But don’t forget why I ended up in this mess in the first place. A lot of it has to do with you, this incompetent system,” Chu Bing shot back with a blank expression.

The system caught in its throat, and, sensing Chu Bing’s irritation, silently shut up.

Chu Bing estimated the place the system had mentioned, then lowered her head and sighed. Her neck hurt terribly, not to mention her ankle, which she had injured in the struggle with the giant fish just now; even walking was difficult now.

But staying overnight by the sea was far too dangerous. After all, no one knew how many monsters like that giant fish were out there.

She hauled Li Yuxi to his feet, slung his arm over her shoulder, and forced herself onward.

She limped along step by step, and before long her forehead was covered in sweat.

All at once, a crab burrowed out of the sand. Chu Bing was so startled that her footing slipped, and she fell to the ground in a miserable heap.

Li Yuxi fell with her, collapsing on top of her.

His chest rose and fell faintly, and his warm breath was right before her face. Caught off guard, Chu Bing found her eyes filled entirely with Li Yuxi’s face, handsome enough to provoke resentment in gods and men.

The anger that had been on her lips was swallowed back down in an instant.

Fine... he was only half-disabled right now.

She would never admit that just seeing Li Yuxi’s face made her lose her temper.

She struggled to her feet, and, so as not to repeat what had just happened, deliberately let Li Yuxi lie against her. Dragging him along, she moved forward step by step.

Li Yuxi lay across Chu Bing’s back, his long legs dragging a trail in the sand.

From afar, his body completely enveloped Chu Bing’s figure, the two of them seeming to merge into one, unexpectedly harmonious.

Li Yuxi’s lashes fluttered. He opened his eyes, and what met his gaze was Chu Bing, carrying him on her back as she limped laboriously across the ground.

She was so small. To him, he must feel like a great mountain pressing down on her.

And yet even in such difficulty, Chu Bing had never once thought of abandoning him.

In Li Yuxi’s life, there had never been anyone who had gone this far for him.

His mother had repeated in his ear over and over that he must strive for her glory and wealth. His father had been even more direct, telling him that his very existence was meant to pave the way for his third younger brother.

His eldest brother accepted his fate. He did not.

He had fought with everything he had, trying to change the destiny others had assigned him. The people around him came and went, and there had never been anyone who stayed at his side.

And Li Yuxi knew very well that if anything truly happened to him, no one would live and die with him.

But at this moment, as he watched Chu Bing drenched in sweat and looking nearly miserable, a clear thought formed in his heart.

Slowly, he closed his eyes and buried his face in the crook of Chu Bing’s neck.

Chu Bing had no idea the person behind her had already awakened. She kept gasping for breath, sweat streaming from her forehead and blurring her vision. If not for sheer force of will, she would have dropped to the ground and slept the sleep of the dead right there.

The hollow at her neck was damp, and in a daze Chu Bing thought her own sweat must be too much... perhaps before she even reached the place the system had mentioned, she would already have died of dehydration.

The system watched all of it in silence, but did not warn Chu Bing.

It had come to understand: this girl, foolish though she was, had the luck of the innocent. Knowing too much... might not be a good thing.
