Chapter 101: There Can Only Be Me
Chu Bing stepped out of the tent, where Ren Changfeng was waiting for her. Clad in armor, his presence exuded an overwhelming aura of lethality, yet the moment his gaze landed on Chu Bing, it softened unexpectedly.
Carefully supporting her, he asked, “Does your foot still hurt? Should I have the military doctor take a look?”
Trying to ignore the heavy hands on her arm, Chu Bing’s voice was stiff as she replied, “No need, it’s almost healed.”
Ren Changfeng led her into the adjacent tent. “Breakfast is ready. I’m not sure what you like, so I had them prepare a variety. Though conditions here are harsh, bear with it. Once we return to the capital, whatever you wish to eat, I’ll have them make it for you.”
Supporting her, Ren Changfeng chattered along the way, catching the stunned gazes of many soldiers. None could have imagined that the fierce General Ren, known as the god of death on the battlefield, could be so gentle before this young woman.
Chu Bing, however, had no such thoughts.
Entering the tent, she glanced at the assortment of breakfast laid out on the table and couldn’t help but wonder where Li Yuxi might have hidden.
Ren Changfeng peeled a boiled egg for her and, looking at her gently, said, “Hongxiu, I truly like you. Rest assured, though I can’t offer you the status of the principal wife, even as a secondary consort, no one in my household will surpass you. On our wedding day, I’ll give you a grand bridal procession spanning ten miles. You will be the happiest woman in the entire capital.”
Chu Bing braced herself as she listened, feeling not moved but rather repulsed.
From beginning to end, Li Yuxi had never asked for her consent, selfishly assuming every woman in the world would be willing to marry him as a concubine.
She could only scoff inwardly. As a young woman of the modern era, how could she lower her pride to become Ren Changfeng’s concubine?
“Secondary consort” — no matter how kindly it was put, it was still just a concubine.
“Hongxiu, where is your family? When we marry, should we invite them to the wedding banquet?” Ren Changfeng grew more excited, as if he had already pictured her as his bride.
Chu Bing looked up at him coldly. “My mother passed away long ago. My father is still alive but in poor health. There’s no need to trouble them.”
She had no intention of marrying Ren Changfeng, but if she said it too bluntly, she feared he wouldn’t accept it and might imprison her. Having endured the torment of Li Yuxi, she no longer underestimated any ancient man.
Ren Changfeng, hearing her words, mistakenly thought she had agreed to marry him once they returned to the capital, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
“All right, all right, whatever you say goes.”
He smiled warmly as he served her some food.
Chu Bing immediately lost her appetite.
“I’m full. I’ll go back to rest.”
---
Ren Changfeng was in high spirits and obedient to Chu Bing’s every wish. He stood up and personally helped her back to her tent.
Chu Bing watched him walk away and finally exhaled in relief, only to turn around and see Li Yuxi lying on the bed.
He propped his head up with one hand, a half-smile on his lips, his eyes alluring. Chu Bing instinctively clutched her chest and quietly turned away.
“Where are you going?” Li Yuxi’s gaze darkened briefly as he watched her retreat, but he quickly brightened and said with a smile, “Don’t run away every time you see me. Ren Changfeng and the others are currently searching for assassins. If you linger around them a few more times, maybe they’ll start to suspect you.”
Chu Bing’s footsteps halted, and she turned around with a pale face. “What exactly do you want?”
He was like a persistent ghost.
Her anger flared inside. Outside stood the watchful Ren Changfeng; inside lurked this unrelenting Li Yuxi. Why was she so unlucky?
Seeing her flustered, Li Yuxi shook his head indulgently, then with a flick of his sleeve, a gust of wind swept toward Chu Bing. Before she could react, he pulled her into his arms.
Turning, he carried her to the bed.
He leaned over her, pressing down, while his other hand pulled the blanket over them both.
Chu Bing struggled twice, then resignedly closed her eyes.
She was no match for this man.
Li Yuxi smiled faintly, planting a light kiss on her lips. Startled, Chu Bing opened her eyes to meet the amused gleam in his.
Her expression stiffened as she grit her teeth and said, “Li Yuxi, can you show me some respect?”
He raised an eyebrow. “How am I not respecting you?”
“You kissed me without my consent. That’s harassment!”
Li Yuxi trapped her hands and kissed her again at the lips. “Harassment? Want me to tell you what real harassment is?”
He withdrew one hand and slid it down along her clothing.
Their bodies pressed tightly together. Chu Bing could feel the change in him — this man was serious, not joking.
Panic flickered in her eyes. She met his gaze and said, “Li Yuxi, stop! If you dare touch me, I will never forgive you in this lifetime!”
Li Yuxi studied her for two seconds, then released her hands and fell back onto the bed, lying beside her with his hands behind his head. His tone was plaintive. “All right, I’ll let you off this time.”
---
Chu Bing immediately clutched her chest and retreated to the corner of the bed.
She desperately wanted to run!
But… her ankle was still not healed!
Li Yuxi watched her curl up like a frightened little creature, a sudden irritation rising within him.
His original intention was never to scare her.
He jumped off the bed and stood at its edge, looking at her with helplessness. “Enough, don’t be afraid. I won’t get on the bed, alright?”
Chu Bing was startled and quietly turned to see him indeed off the bed. Her confidence returned instantly, eyes wide and bright. “You mean what you say!”
Seeing the sparkle in her eyes, Li Yuxi had no reason to refuse.
He stepped closer to the bed, and Chu Bing immediately shrank back a little.
Li Yuxi smiled faintly, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. “But you have to promise me one thing.”
She bit her lip. “Go on.”
“You have to stay away from that Ren Changfeng. You’ve seen what that man’s intentions are. If you let him lay a hand on you, I’ll kill him—and then kill you too!”
A flash of murderous intent crossed Li Yuxi’s eyes, his aura fierce and menacing.
Chu Bing curled her lips in derision. “You think everyone is as shameless as you?”
Besides, if she weren’t injured, she wouldn’t have let Li Yuxi near her bed!
Neither Ren Changfeng nor Li Yuxi were good men. Only Li Mohan was a true gentleman.
The system, sensing Chu Bing’s thoughts, sneered silently. Truly a foolish host!
Noticing Chu Bing’s expression, Li Yuxi lowered his voice, his tone dangerous. “Since you know I have no bottom line, don’t provoke me.”
He reached out and touched her cheek, his eyes icy and threatening. “The one I desire, no one else is allowed to touch. No matter who you’re hiding in your heart, you’d better forget him soon.”
“From now on, your heart can only belong to me.”
