Chapter 122: Is It Worth It?
Chu Bing dashed a long way before coming to a stop. Standing on a tree branch, she gazed toward Li Haoran’s courtyard, only letting out a sigh of relief once that familiar figure had returned inside.
"System, what on earth is Li Haoran plotting?"
"Your only job is to complete your mission. Why concern yourself with anything else?" the system responded in a cold, detached tone.
Chu Bing rolled her eyes. "Trash system."
She sat on the branch, swinging her legs. "Sigh, I still remember when I first met Li Haoran. He was full of integrity, a total greenhorn, yet he was willing to stand up against his own father for my sake. Now, he’s become someone I don’t even recognize."
Moreover, based on the conversation she had just overheard between him and Xiao Tao, Li Haoran was actually planning to make a move against Li Mohan!
The image of Li Mohan’s cold, noble face flashed through her mind. She bit her lip, wondering if she should go and warn him.
"Host, everyone changes. Everyone’s fate was ordained the moment they were born; now is simply the time for them to walk the path already set for them," the system stated emotionlessly.
Chu Bing blinked. "You say fate? Then what is Li Haoran’s fate? And what is Li Mohan’s?"
"If fate truly exists, how could I have traveled from the distant modern era to this ancient one?" Could fate really govern two different eras?
"This is your fate, Host," the system replied. "Those who defy fate never meet a good end."
Chu Bing was left speechless.
The system had always demanded that she teach Li Haoran martial arts. She had begun to vaguely realize that Li Haoran’s existence must hold some special significance for this era. But she could never have imagined who he would eventually become.
The cold moonlight spilled over Chu Bing, draping her in a shimmering silver veil. The concealment array she had cast had long since faded into nothingness. As she swung her legs, she looked as ethereal and beautiful as if she had descended from the moon itself.
Li Mohan walked into the courtyard with his hands behind his back, tilting his head to look up at her. "How long do you intend to stay up there? Why don’t you come down?"
Caught off guard by his voice, Chu Bing was so startled that she tumbled right out of the tree.
"Ah!"
*It’s over,* she thought, *my backside is going to be split in two!*
She squeezed her eyes shut, but the expected impact never came. Instead, she fell into a pair of warm arms. She opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was Li Mohan’s cold, handsome face.
"E-Eldest Young Master?" How did he get here?
Li Mohan raised an eyebrow. "How long do you plan on staying in my arms?"
Chu Bing froze, then quickly jumped down, looking at the ground as she mumbled, "I’m sorry."
"Sorry for what?"
Chu Bing paused. She had apologized on instinct, but when she thought about it, she didn’t even know why.
Li Mohan looked down at the top of her head, his eyes softening. *She’s still just a little girl,* he thought. He turned to look at Li Haoran’s courtyard. "Why were you here?"
In the dead of night, Chu Bing had been sitting in a tree outside Li Haoran’s courtyard. Was she pining for him? Was she too afraid to go inside and see him, so she sat there looking pathetic and longing?
As this thought crossed Li Mohan’s mind, his expression darkened.
Chu Bing wrinkled her nose, not knowing how to tell him that she had been eavesdropping outside Li Haoran’s door and heard him and Xiao Tao calling him a fool! But if she said nothing, she… she couldn't bring herself to do it. Besides, Xiao Tao had practically undressed in front of Li Haoran; if she kept silent any longer, the man she had
