Chapter 44: Subspace Travel! Hehe! I Have a Faster-than-Light Engine
Why are you asking so many questions? You'll find out soon enough.
While the little nun was washing up, Rhodes used his captain's permissions to directly open the washroom door and slip right inside.
"Lord Rhodes! You! You!" At this moment, the medical nun had shrunk back into the corner in fright.
"Quiet down, I'm just here to deliver something to you!"
"Y-y-you, what are you going to give me?"
"Bringing you gene-seed!"
"Eep! I, I'm still..." At this moment, the little nun's face turned completely red. She had barely been on the ship for an hour!
............... (All omitted here.)
Several hours later, Elena was draped in a white robe, sitting barefoot on the edge of the bed. The little nun's face was flushed with a rosy hue underneath her fair skin, making her look utterly adorable.
Did the senior nun know something after all?
So that was what she meant by taking care of someone? No wonder she insisted on sending me! The other battle sisters certainly wouldn't be suited for this.
Meanwhile, Rhodes stood nearby, picking up two cans of military rations to heat them up. He needed to replenish his energy.
Well, it was really just to replenish the little nun's energy; Rhodes claimed he didn't need it at all.
刚刚他可没拿出全力呢!经过怪兽强化之后的恐怖体质,可没有完全展现出来!
"The rations are heated up, come over and have some!"
"I can't walk over! Bring it to me!" The little nun shook her head as she sat on the edge of the bed. She simply couldn't walk over right now.
Rhodes shrugged helplessly, picked up the warmed rations, and walked over to the little nun. Women of any era loved to act spoiled, it seemed!
Girls in the Warhammer universe were no exception, though the little nun acting spoiled occasionally was actually quite endearing.
As long as it wasn't a Battle Sister acting spoiled toward you; those unhinged lunatics were more than anyone could handle.
"Hahaha, come eat. You were crying your eyes out just a moment ago," Rhodes teased.
"Hmph! Lord Rhodes!" Elena gave Rhodes an annoyed punch, snatched the rations from his hand, and admitted that she was indeed quite hungry!
Once that invisible barrier had been broken, the relationship between the two had grown much closer. The little girl even dared to joke with him now.
However, this was how it should be. A young girl ought to be lively; being dead and gloomy all day long was terribly boring.
The two sat on the edge of the bed, chatting back and forth.
"Lord Rhodes! Will you keep me by your side from now on? You won't abandon me, will you?" The little nun looked up and asked.
After all, the man before her was the God-Emperor's chosen champion, and even half a Primarch. She had never heard of a Primarch having a wife.
Therefore, the little nun simply hoped she could stay by Rhodes' side, wondering if he would still remember her even centuries later.
A Primarch's lifespan far exceeded that of a mortal, and as the chosen of the Emperor, Lord Rhodes should have no trouble living for ten thousand years.
What would become of her by that time? She was just an ordinary human, after all.
"Of course. From now on, you are my personal possession!" Rhodes smiled and pinched her cheek as he spoke.
"But I can only live for a few decades."
"I'll perform life-extension procedures for you. You'll have to keep me company for at least the next thousand years."
By then, he would figure out a way to prolong her lifespan; after all, she was the first woman he had encountered in the Warhammer universe.
In the future, he might even extract the Dark Giant, and direct biological ascension wouldn't be entirely out of the question.
"Mm, it's a promise then, Lord Rhodes!"
"It's a promise. Hurry up and eat! I'm going to pilot the ship, you get some good rest." Rhodes patted the little nun's head and said.
"Mm! I'm going to sleep for a while after I finish eating, so don't you dare come bother me." The little nun yawned and said, truly exhausted.
She needed to seize the time to rest now, because once they entered warp space travel, rest would become a luxury.
Rhodes nodded, turned around, and left the room, heading straight to the captain's quarters.
Earlier, based on the Astronomican's link, Rhodes had already set the coordinates for the planet where the Deathwatch forces were located, and then put the ship on autopilot.
The alien spaceship from the Ultraman universe was truly impressive. Rhodes didn't understand the physical principles behind its propulsion, but the vessel was undoubtedly traveling faster than light.
There was zero need to rely on the powers of the Warp. This method of space travel was by far the safest and most reliable way to traverse the cosmos—the Warp was simply far too dangerous.
As for the remaining system gold coins, Rhodes chose not to use them on Bemular for now. This giant bird would be dealing with the Tyranid swarm later; once it sustained heavy injuries, he would apply the same enhancement method he used on Red King.
The remaining system gold coins had to be budgeted carefully and spent where they mattered most. This time, he wasn't facing just a few hive ships, but over fifty of them. He could not afford to take them lightly.
Right now, he still had over ten thousand system gold coins left, though drawing a monster blindly wasn't guaranteed to yield a useful result.
Rhodes planned to arrive at the battlefield and use the Pedoman spacecraft in coordination with King Joe, deploying Pedanium Cannons to destroy several hive ships first.
Once King Joe was upgraded to its ultimate form, the firepower of the Pedanium Cannon would be strong enough to destroy a hive ship in a single strike.
He would earn a batch of system gold coins first, and then immediately perform a new monster draw or upgrade the Pedoman spacecraft to make its main gun even more powerful.
As for Bemular, he would drop the creature onto the planetary surface to devour the bugs.
Bemular's devouring speed against the swarms was exceptionally fast. As for Red King, he'd find an opportunity to drop that massive brute down there too, letting Bemular keep a slight eye on him.
These two giant monsters should be able to attract a portion of the swarm's attention. After all, genetically powerful monsters were always of immense interest to the hive mind.
Time slowly ticked away. A few hours later, the little nun had put back on her medical nun carapace armor. She held a Pedanium pistol given to her by Rhodes in one hand and a chain short-sword in the other, appearing before him in a fully armed combat posture.
"Lord Rhodes, I've rested enough. Let's begin our Warp voyage now! If we encounter any Warp Chaos Daemons, I will fight alongside you," Elena declared to Rhodes.
They had already wasted a little time; they needed to get moving with Warp travel immediately so as not to delay the Emperor's mission.
Traveling through the Warp meant that Chaos Daemons could manifest anywhere on the ship at any moment, so combat readiness was an absolute must.
"Why are you dressed like that? Who told you we were going to use Warp travel? Who told you we were going to fight daemons?
This spaceship is no ordinary vessel; we're going to fly there at faster-than-light speed," Rhodes said with a smile.
Do you think the old Emperor is treating me so well for nothing? He's drooling over this—the faster-than-light engine.
