Chapter 115: The Dojo Tournament—Unorthodox Techniques

Cheng Cheng mused that although a Pokémon had created this world, it could not be said to have no connection to Zekrom and Reshiram. Suddenly, he recalled another Pokémon, the one known as the strongest Dragon-type: Kyurem. Kyurem possesses the powers of both Zekrom and Reshiram; legend has it that when Zekrom, Reshiram, and Kyurem fuse, they become a single, immensely powerful Pokémon.

Cheng Cheng speculated that perhaps this Pokémon was the one who created the world. However, this was merely a legend, and its truth remained unknown. It seemed he would truly need to visit the ruins of Reshiram to search for any useful information to understand more. Cheng Cheng found the many unknown secrets of this Pokémon world to be truly fascinating.

After finishing the final chapter of the book, Cheng Cheng proceeded to a Pokémon battle with Gym Leader Lenora.

"Each side will use three Pokémon. The match ends when one side's Pokémon are all unable to battle, and the other side is declared the winner. Additionally, only the challenger has the right to switch Pokémon."

"Now, both sides, please send out your Pokémon."

"My first Pokémon is this one. Go, Herdier!"

Pokémon: Herdier
Type: Normal
Level: 38
Combat Power: 4109
Moves: Leer, Tail Whip, Tackle, Odor Sleuth, Bite, Helping Hand, Take Down, Work Up, Crunch, Roar, Retaliate.

Herdier—that is a formidable Pokémon.

"Go, Chimecho!"

Cheng Cheng sent out Chimecho. Against a Pokémon like Herdier, the small-statured Chimecho was a sound choice.

"Herdier, use Leer!"

Herdier locked its gaze onto Chimecho and used Leer. Chimecho’s body shivered, but it quickly recovered.

"Chimecho, use Psywave!"

"Chime," the chime sounded, and Herdier took damage.

"Herdier, use Tackle!" Herdier charged toward Chimecho.

"Chimecho, dodge quickly!"

"Use Bite!" As Herdier reached Chimecho, it quickly shifted its attack.

"Chimecho, fly up!" Chimecho soared high into the air, leaving Herdier with no options. Indeed, Normal-type Pokémon are at a disadvantage when facing those capable of flight.

"Herdier, use Retaliate."

Cheng Cheng had never seen the move Retaliate before. Although he had seen it listed among Herdier's moves, he did not know its effect. He soon found out. Chimecho suddenly rushed toward Herdier, ignoring all danger. Cheng Cheng realized the effect of Retaliate; it was a skill that provoked the opponent into attacking.

"Since that is the case, Chimecho, use Double-Edge!"

"Herdier, use Bite!"

Herdier clamped down on Chimecho, and Chimecho let out a cry of pain.

"Chimecho, use Psyshock!"

"Chime," the Psyshock hit Herdier. Herdier felt a sharp pain in its head and immediately released Chimecho.

"Chimecho, use Psywave!"

"Chime," Chimecho launched another Psywave, dealing significant damage to Herdier.

"Herdier, use Tackle!"

"Chimecho, dodge!"

"Herdier, Take Down!"

Herdier changed moves and rammed into Chimecho; Chimecho could not dodge in time.

"Chimecho, Double-Edge!"

Chimecho and Herdier collided and both fainted.

"Both Herdier and Chimecho are unable to battle. Both sides, please send out your second Pokémon."

"Your Chimecho performed quite well. Now, I will send out my next Pokémon. Go, Watchog!"

Cheng Cheng knew he had been careless in the previous round, failing to understand the moves, which led to his defeat. He had to be careful this time. He checked Watchog's data.

Pokémon: Watchog
Type: Normal
Level: 40
Combat Power: 4234
Moves: Rototiller, Tackle, Leer, Low Kick, Bite, Endure, Detect, Sand-Attack, Crunch, Hypnosis, Confuse Ray, Super Fang, After You, Imprison, Hyper Fang, Mean Look, Baton Pass.

Whether in level, combat power, or moves, this Watchog was stronger than the previous Herdier. Cheng Cheng naturally needed to send out a stronger Pokémon.

"I leave it to you, Gardevoir."

Cheng Cheng used one of his "Three Great Generals," Gardevoir. Cheng Cheng currently had ten Pokémon, which he had categorized. Gardevoir, Lunatone, and Slowpoke were his designated "Three Great Generals." He would put all his effort into helping them improve their combat power, while the others would develop in different directions.

"Watchog, use Tackle!"

"Gardevoir, dodge!"

"Watchog, Confuse Ray!"

After Gardevoir dodged the tackle, Watchog used Confuse Ray. However, the move had little effect on Gardevoir. As soon as it hit, Gardevoir quickly recovered from the confusion.

"Gardevoir, Shadow Ball!"

"Watchog, jump and dodge! Then use Hyper Fang!"

Watchog leaped to avoid the attack, closed the distance to Gardevoir, and used Hyper Fang.

"Gardevoir, Teleport!"

Cheng Cheng knew he had to dodge this move; Hyper Fang was very powerful. It was a signature move for rodent-like Pokémon, most notably Raticate. Raticate could easily cause a Pokémon to faint with this move, so he had to avoid it if possible.

"Now, Gardevoir, use Psychic!"

Watchog’s body stiffened as it was controlled by Gardevoir.

"Throw it up! Use Shadow Ball!"

Gardevoir tossed Watchog into the air and hit it with a Shadow Ball, sending it crashing to the ground.

"Watchog, are you okay? Can you still battle?"

"Watch..." Watchog stood back up; it could still fight.

"Very well. Watchog, use Mean Look!"

Mean Look successfully affected Gardevoir; its body froze, unable to react.

"Watchog, jump up and use Bite!"

"Gardevoir, wake up!"

Cheng Cheng communicated with Gardevoir directly through his psychic powers. Hearing Cheng Cheng's voice, Gardevoir quickly reacted and used Teleport to leave its position.

"Gardevoir, use Shadow Ball!"

The Shadow Ball struck Watchog, and it collapsed.

"Watchog is unable to battle; the winner is Gardevoir."

Cheng Cheng knew he had won only because he could communicate with Gardevoir via his psychic abilities; otherwise, had it been bitten, Gardevoir would have been severely injured, and the victory would not have been so easy.

"I truly didn't expect that. In that case, I will send out my final Pokémon."

"I leave it to you, Audino."

Cheng Cheng had not expected Lenora to have an Audino. Much like Blissey, Audino is a staple for Nurse Joy. It is not an easy task for others to obtain one.

Pokémon: Audino
Type: Normal
Level: 45
Combat Power: 4780
Moves: Pound, Growl, Helping Hand, Refresh, Double Slap, Attract, Secret Power, Entrainment, Take Down, Heal Pulse, After You, Simple Beam.

This Audino was very strong; Cheng Cheng had to be on high alert.

"Audino, use Attract!"

The move hit Gardevoir, and it became infatuated.

"I didn't expect your Gardevoir to be male. Male Gardevoir are quite rare; I was just testing, but I didn't think it would actually work."

"Gardevoir, wake up!"

Cheng Cheng attempted to connect with Gardevoir, but it failed; Gardevoir did not recover.

"Audino, use Double Slap!"

Taking advantage of the situation, Audino attacked. Gardevoir was sent flying by the slaps, but it finally regained its senses.

"Gardevoir, are you okay?"

"Gardevoir..."

"Gardevoir, use Shadow Ball!"

"Audino, use Protect!"

Audino blocked the attack.

"Audino, use Simple Beam!"

Cheng Cheng was puzzled—what kind of move was Simple Beam? But judging by the name, it sounded like an offensive skill.

"Gardevoir, Protect!"

Cheng Cheng had Gardevoir use Protect to block the beam.

"Audino, use Entrainment!"

What was this? Cheng Cheng suddenly lost control over Gardevoir, and it collapsed to the ground, motionless.

"Gardevoir is unable to battle; the winner is Audino."

Cheng Cheng was stunned. He hadn't realized Audino could use Entrainment in such a way—it was practically broken!

Cheng Cheng did not immediately send out his third Pokémon; he paused to think. This Audino's move set was incredibly difficult to deal with; one mistake and he would lose. Right, he only had one Pokémon left.

"Go, Slowbro!"

Cheng Cheng knew that only Slowbro might be able to win this match.

"Audino, use Attract!"

Naturally, Slowbro was hit by Attract and became infatuated. However, unlike other Pokémon, Slowbro did not stand still; it used Water Gun. Indeed, one of the ways Slowbro expresses affection is by blasting the other party with a Water Gun.

The Water Gun struck Audino directly, catching it off guard and sending it flying. At the same time, the effect of Attract wore off.

"Audino, use Entrainment!"

Audino used the move again. Cheng Cheng was worried about whether Slowbro could withstand it. Yet, just like Gardevoir, Slowbro collapsed to the ground. Seeing this, Cheng Cheng’s heart sank—it appeared he was about to lose.
