Chapter 109: Raven Town, Cheng Cheng and Mu Zi
"Immunity to Dragon-type moves? What kind of joke is that?"
"I know you don't believe it, but it's the truth."
"Fairy-type Pokémon were only recently announced. One of their abilities is to be immune to Dragon-type moves."
"Of course, I know about Fairy-type Pokémon; Professor Oak just released that information. I've read the report, but it never mentioned immunity to Dragon-type moves."
"That's because that detail was not meant to be made public."
"Why not?"
Muzi was puzzled.
"Think about it. What was your reaction when you heard that Fairy-types are immune to Dragon moves? Most people in your Dragon Homeland use Dragon-type Pokémon, right? Now imagine if they found out that Fairy-types completely counter their Dragon Pokémon. How do you think they'd react?"
Muzi thought carefully.
"Indeed, no one would want that to happen. Ice-types are already strong counters to Dragons. If Fairy-types could just outright nullify Dragon moves, people would probably panic."
"Exactly. Dragon Pokémon are currently considered the most powerful type, and many families have established their status because of them. If this information were revealed, their interests would be harmed. So they won’t allow this news to spread widely."
"I see. That makes sense. But how do you know all this so well?"
"Because I'm one of the participants."
"You're one of the participants?"
Muzi was very surprised. The discovery of Fairy-type Pokémon was one of the most significant events in recent years. She never imagined Cheng Cheng would have a chance to be involved.
"Haven't you looked carefully at the report Professor Oak published? My name is in it too."
"Really?"
Muzi took out the Pokédex and looked up the paper on Fairy-type Pokémon. She indeed found Qimu Chengcheng’s name.
"Wow, it really is you."
"Of course it is. Didn’t I tell you before when we battled at the Breeder School, I already knew why your Dragon moves had no effect on my Gardevoir? I was the first to suggest this to Professor Oak. That’s how the research on Fairy-types began. Naturally, I was involved."
"That’s amazing. Chengcheng, I didn’t expect you to be one of the discoverers of Fairy-type Pokémon."
"Well, it’s nothing special. But please, don’t tell anyone about Fairy-types being immune to Dragon moves."
"Why not?"
"If those who use Dragon Pokémon find out, do you think they’ll let me off easily?"
"That’s true. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone."
"By the way, I want to try again. Can you send out Gardevoir one more time?"
"Of course, but let’s switch to a different Pokémon."
"Come out, Mr. Mime."
"Mimey."
Chengcheng sent out Mr. Mime.
"My Mr. Mime also has the Fairy attribute. You can try it."
"Alright, I won’t hesitate then."
After several trials, Muzi finally accepted the fact that Fairy-type Pokémon can be immune to Dragon moves.
At the same time, Chengcheng repeatedly reminded her not to spread the information.
Muzi promised seriously.
"Alright, alright, let’s get moving. It’s getting dark soon."
"Okay."
After packing up their camp, Chengcheng and Muzi set off again.
They traveled for a while and reached Raven Town before nightfall. Yes, this was Raven Town, not Raven City. So far, they hadn’t left the jurisdiction of Raven City yet.
The administrative area of Raven City is vast, and they still had some distance to go before entering Feiyun City’s jurisdiction.
Now that they were in Raven Town, they decided to stay at the Pokémon Center for the night.
"By the way, Muzi, have you decided which Pokémon to send back?"
"I’m actually reluctant to part with any, but since we have new Pokémon joining, I have to send one back. I’ve decided to send Dragonair back. It’s the highest level among my team. I want the others to grow more."
"Then send Dragonair back."
Muzi sent Dragonair back to the Dragon Homeland and contacted her family.
"Mom, I’ve arrived at Raven Town. Next, I’m going to challenge the sixth gym."
"That’s great. How’s your journey going?"
"Really good. I even met a good friend here — he was my classmate at the Breeder School."
"Chengcheng, come here for a moment."
Chengcheng approached and saw a woman on the video call. That was Muzi’s mother, about the same age as Aunt Meixu.
"Auntie, hello, I’m Muzi’s friend, Qimu Chengcheng."
"Hello, Chengcheng. May I call you that?"
"Of course."
"Chengcheng, thank you for taking care of Muzi while you’re together."
"No, Muzi is amazing too. We help each other on the road."
"Having you accompany her on this trip puts me at ease. Muzi tends to be quite scatterbrained."
"Alright, Mom. I’ve sent Dragonair back. Please take good care of it. Bye."
"Goodbye, Auntie."
Before Chengcheng finished speaking, Muzi hung up immediately.
"Muzi, shouldn’t you chat with your mom a bit more? Why hang up so quickly? Don’t tell me you don’t want me to hear her teasing you."
"Shut up, jerk! Don’t say nonsense, or I’ll beat you up!"
"Okay, okay, whatever. But I’ll definitely ask Auntie if you have any embarrassing stories."
"Idiot, you asked for it!"
Muzi raised her fist and swung at Chengcheng.
"Help! Murder!"
Chengcheng ran around, shouting and laughing all at once.
"Quiet!"
"Pokémon and guests need rest. Please keep it down."
Nurse Joy blocked them sternly, so Chengcheng and Muzi stopped. But Muzi still punched Chengcheng in the stomach, and he doubled over in pain.
Muzi then went back to her room, and Chengcheng, clutching his stomach, crawled back to his.
The next morning, they had breakfast in the Pokémon Center’s hall.
Muzi seemed to have forgotten what happened last night, but Chengcheng still remembered the painful punch that hurt his stomach for a long while.
Chengcheng hadn’t had time to look at Muzi’s profile before, so he decided to check it out now.
Profile: Muzi
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Combat Power: 13,142,020
Intelligence: 167
Special Ability: Girl’s Wrath
Rating: A
Muzi’s combat power wasn’t as ridiculously high as Ash’s, but it was still very strong. As for that special ability—Girl’s Wrath—indeed, an angry girl can be quite fearsome.
"Muzi, how about we go out together today and stroll around the town?"
"Sure! I actually want to buy some things."
Seeing Muzi’s eyes sparkle, Chengcheng had a bad feeling. Sure enough, his premonition soon came true. Whether it was a supernatural sense or not, he sensed what was about to happen.
Chengcheng had thought Muzi was different from other girls, but when it came to shopping, she was just like any other girl.
Muzi shopped wildly as soon as they hit the street—buying clothes, then toys, then snacks. Chengcheng was interested in the food, but with his hands full, he couldn’t even enjoy it properly.
"Muzi, isn’t this enough? We’ve bought so many things."
"Not at all! We still have more to get."
They continued shopping down another street. By now, Chengcheng’s hands were overflowing. He even had the Pokémon help by telekinetically carrying many of the purchases.
Walking down the street like that, they made quite a spectacle. Many people stared, making Chengcheng embarrassed. Those in the know understood they were shopping; others probably thought they were robbing the stores.
Muzi packed some of the items into her backpack and sent the rest home.
Afterward, they went to a restaurant for lunch. Chengcheng was already very hungry after a morning of shopping, so he ordered enough food for three to revive himself from hunger.
"Muzi, how about we watch a movie this afternoon?"
"Sure! I love movies. I just saw that the Miracle Warrior movie is playing today. Let’s watch that."
"Sounds great."
Chengcheng was thrilled that Muzi wanted to watch a movie. He didn’t want to spend the afternoon shopping again—it would wear him out.
They bought two tickets and sat down to watch the Miracle Warrior movie. The story was about Pokémon battles, with the main character being a Pokémon called the Miracle Warrior.
Chengcheng noticed some art style reminiscent of Yu-Gi-Oh! inside the film. Could there be other travelers here as well?
He also noticed a device similar to a duel disk from Yu-Gi-Oh!, where inserting certain items could amplify a Pokémon’s power. Maybe such a thing would actually appear someday.
Besides this “Miracle Launcher” device, Chengcheng found the rest of the movie somewhat boring, but Muzi enjoyed it greatly.
After the movie, they wandered the streets a bit more and had dinner.
Finally, they returned to the Pokémon Center.
