Chapter Eight: Kill Them All!
Under the bright, clear moonlight, Jiang Li gazed slowly at Su Yan.
"Young Master..." Su Yan breathed out, her voice warm and soft.
"Yes."
Jiang Li responded, his hands caressing Su Yan's delicate, porcelain-like skin. Su Yan gradually wrapped her arms around Jiang Li's neck, her eyes becoming hazy, a hint of allure blooming on her face. Jiang Li kissed her gently, his hands wandering over her body. It was midsummer, and the clothes Su Yan wore were thin; the sensation was almost indistinguishable from touching bare skin...
[Concubine favored, task completed.]
[Task reward has been deposited into the system storage; the host may retrieve it at will.]
Jiang Li let out a sigh of relief instantly. He quickly stood up and pulled Su Yan up from the ground along with him.
"Young Master..." Su Yan looked at Jiang Li, confused.
"That is enough." Jiang Li nodded, then feigned a look toward the sky. "Father! Look, I have fulfilled the task of continuing the Jiang family line; please, lend me a hand now."
As he spoke, a thought flickered in his mind, and the *Encyclopedia of Medical Science* descended from the sky, landing in his hands.
"Ah!" Su Yan covered her mouth and gasped. This display by Jiang Li caused her mind to go blank.
Jiang Li patted Su Yan's shoulder and sighed. "It is like this. You all know my father is dead, but I often dream of him. He told me to carry on the family line and ensure the Jiang family flourishes. So today, I wanted to see if, by doing this, my father's spirit would grant us some help. It seems that, Father, I will surely ensure the Jiang family's bloodline continues!"
"Thank you, Master Jiang!" Su Yan knelt to the ground immediately, kowtowing three times before rising with a flushed face to look at Jiang Li. "Young Master, does that mean we, are we going to..."
"Oh, don't worry about that; we can talk about it another time." Jiang Li rubbed his face, his mood complicated. If Su Yang had been fine, he wouldn't have minded what happened with Su Yan. After all, Jiang Li was a normal man. But now, it was for the sake of saving Su Yang; if he truly took advantage of Su Yan, she might not be doing it willingly, and Jiang Li disdained such behavior. Since he could now obtain rewards from the system, there was no need to proceed further.
Survival was the most important thing.
Once the two returned to the camp, Jiang Li immediately used the firelight to open the *Encyclopedia of Medical Science*. Chu Chunqiu and Qiu Yue were naturally curious, but they were even easier to fool than Su Yan. Jiang Li simply said that Jiang Tian's spirit was watching over them and could not bear to see them suffer, and the two believed him implicitly.
"Thank you, Master Jiang!" The two of them quickly bowed toward the sky.
Jiang Li felt a bit ashamed. If he were trying to fool people from Earth, it might have been harder, but fooling people from this era was far too simple.
"Found it!" Jiang Li quickly called the three of them over and pointed to the pictures in the *Encyclopedia of Medical Science*. "These herbs—bupleurum, kudzu root, beggarticks, and all these others below—any one of them will do!"
With that, Jiang Li took the lead. Fortunately, the moonlight was bright enough that he could clearly see the grass on the ground while holding a torch. After an hour or so of hard work, the group finally found some herbs, brewed them according to the instructions in the encyclopedia, and fed the concoction to Su Yang.
"That's it. He should be fine after a good sleep," Jiang Li said with a long sigh, lying down on a pile of hay. Su Yan immediately and obediently began to massage his shoulders and legs.
The night passed without incident. The next morning, as soon as Jiang Li opened his eyes, he heard a thud.
"Master, your life-saving grace is something I, Su Yang, could never repay even in death. From now on, I am at your command, with absolute loyalty!"
Jiang Li stared at Su Yang. "Are you better?"
"Yes, and I owe it all to your herbs, Young Master," Su Yang said softly.
After the group finished breakfast, Jiang Li and Chu Chunqiu went to check the traps they had set the previous day. Overall, the harvest was meager; out of a dozen traps, they had caught only one wild rabbit.
"Young Master, when I was a child, I learned from the village hunters for two years. We could dig some large pits; perhaps we could catch something like a wild boar," Su Yang offered quickly. Since Jiang Li had gone to such lengths to save him in this place, he naturally wanted to prove his worth.
Jiang Li shook his head. "That won't work. There is a tribe of cannibals nearby, and we cannot stay here long. Digging pits to wait for prey takes too long."
As he spoke, Jiang Li waved for Chu Chunqiu and handed him the crossbow. "Let's go. We must venture deeper into the island today to get some real food."
The cannibals he had seen the day before were able to hunt animals like sheep, which meant there were large herbivores deep within the island. Before heading deep into the island, Jiang Li gave careful instructions to Qiu Yue and Su Yan, telling them to hide well and never come out. He left a dagger with Qiu Yue, and then the three men set off.
Jiang Li held a dagger and a sharpened wooden stick, while Chu Chunqiu also carried a wooden stick and clutched the crossbow. The system hadn't provided many bolts—only ten. Chu Chunqiu had retrieved them after killing the native the day before, so they still had ten. As for Su Yang, he was a guard and carried a long saber at his waist. While not fully armed, the three of them at least had some means of self-defense.
They walked vigilantly, moving deeper into the forest. Stepping on dry branches and fallen leaves caused occasional crunching sounds, but it was unavoidable.
"Young Master, there are sheep ahead!" Su Yang whispered, pointing in a direction.
Jiang Li followed his gaze and indeed saw three or five sheep grazing in a patch of grass. The three men crouched down and moved forward slowly, fearing that any loud noise would startle the flock. A full quarter of an hour passed, and they were less than twenty meters away.
"Are you confident?" Jiang Li asked in a low voice.
"Don't worry, Young Master. I'm confident even at fifty meters, though it might get a bit noisy," Chu Chunqiu replied softly.
Jiang Li glanced at the white cloth in his pocket where he had drawn a map; his heart tightened. They were less than five hundred meters from the cannibal tribe. If something went wrong, they would surely be discovered. But their food supply was low, and that abstract system hadn't issued any missions—no matter how dangerous it was, they had to do it!
"Be quick and nimble," Jiang Li instructed, his gaze returning to the front.
Chu Chunqiu acknowledged, readying a bolt and waiting for the right moment. However, just as they were about to act, several wooden spears suddenly rained down from the trees above the sheep, piercing the bellies of two of them.
"Baa! Baa!"
The two sheep struggled on the ground, but three natives jumped down from above, grabbed rocks, and quickly bludgeoned the sheep to death.
"Young Master, what now?" Chu Chunqiu asked, looking at Jiang Li anxiously. Since arriving on the island, he hadn't had a single full meal. Just as he was about to have a feast, these natives had beaten them to it.
Jiang Li’s eyes turned bloodshot. He had long been fed up with the days of starvation and lack of sustenance.
"Kill them!"
