Chapter One: Reborn in Senior Year
“It's just asking you to find him a tutor. If you can’t even handle such a small matter, are you even a man? What use are you?”
Upon opening his eyes, Lin Cheng immediately heard an angry female voice.
Before him sat a neatly dressed girl. Although she wore a high school uniform, her face was lightly made up, her long eyelashes fluttering as she rolled her eyes at him.
In an instant, Lin Cheng’s heart raced.
He wasn’t dead, was he? How could he be back in high school, before he was with He Yueyue?
“Chen Zishi is going to participate in the math competition. Doesn’t your family have Professor Hu Deming, who can tutor him? This is important! Lin Cheng, how many times do I have to tell you?”
Looking at He Yueyue’s self-righteous expression, Lin Cheng smiled.
In his past life, he had even given his life to this woman! Now that he had a second chance, how could he possibly help her again?
Lin Cheng sincerely asked back, “Why should I find a tutor for Chen Zishi? What does it have to do with me?”
He Yueyue was stunned by his question! After a few seconds, she reacted, widening her eyes in shock. “Lin Cheng, what do you mean? Whenever Chen Zishi needed help before, you would immediately assist him.”
Lin Cheng raised an eyebrow. “That was before. I was blind then. Now I don’t want to be a sucker anymore. What’s wrong with that?”
“You! Lin Cheng, are you crazy?” He Yueyue was so angry she slammed the table and stood up! Lin Cheng had always been her most loyal sycophant—how dare he speak to her like this now?
“Yueyue, don’t be mad.”
At that moment, a tall, thin boy with glasses approached and tugged on He Yueyue’s sleeve.
It was Chen Zishi.
His voice was low, and he looked honest and pitiful as he tried to reason, “I can’t afford a tutor because I have no money. It’s my fault. Don’t blame Lin Cheng.”
“How is it your fault for having no money? Lin Cheng clearly can easily help you!” He Yueyue’s anger softened into pity, her tone much gentler now.
Watching this scene, a cold sneer and scornful smile crept onto Lin Cheng’s face.
---
All the tragedies in his past life had started right here.
He had loved He Yueyue, willing to give everything for her, even wholeheartedly helping her so-called friend Chen Zishi.
In their senior year, when Chen Zishi was to participate in the math competition, Lin Cheng immediately followed He Yueyue’s request, leveraging his family’s connections to bring in the nation’s top Professor Hu Deming for tutoring.
Chen Zishi indeed had talent. After winning first prize in the competition, with Professor Hu’s help, he went on to study at a prestigious university abroad.
Meanwhile, Lin Cheng, blindly following behind He Yueyue, failed his college entrance exams and ended up at an ordinary university.
Yet this didn’t stop Lin Cheng from inheriting the family business. After graduating, he successfully pursued He Yueyue and married her. Eight months later, she gave birth to their son, and the three of them seemed happy and perfect.
But He Yueyue kept using Lin Cheng’s resources and money to help Chen Zishi start his business. When Lin Cheng returned to open a company, she even handed over company secrets to Chen Zishi.
The Lin family business suffered losses and teetered on the brink of bankruptcy. He Yueyue and Chen Zishi took over the markets that Lin’s company had to give up, joining forces to send Lin Cheng to prison!
Only before dying in jail did Lin Cheng learn that the son he had raised for over ten years was actually He Yueyue and Chen Zishi’s child!
On his deathbed, Chen Zishi finally revealed his true face, having pretended to be a good person all his life.
He looked at Lin Cheng triumphantly, his smile twisted.
“Do you know why Yueyue suddenly agreed to marry you? Do you know why she was so eager the first time you two were together? Because she was carrying my child!”
“Thank you for giving me your family’s assets. Now, at last, we can be together!”
Thinking of their faces in that past life, Lin Cheng’s eyes flashed with intense disgust. Holding back his rage, he didn’t stand up to punch Chen Zishi.
He glanced coldly, “If you know your family can’t afford a tutor, then stop dreaming.”
Chen Zishi’s face flushed red, and his fists clenched, but he lowered his head and said nothing.
Instead, He Yueyue was so angry her chest heaved as she glared fiercely at Lin Cheng. “You! What’s wrong with you today? What did you just say about Chen Zishi?”
“Isn’t what I said the truth?” Lin Cheng shrugged. “The sneakers on Chen Zishi’s feet are all from my family. Doesn’t he know his own family’s financial situation? A tutor? What’s he pretending to be, some big shot?”
---
He Yueyue didn’t expect Lin Cheng to say even that. Her expression changed.
Just then, the class bell rang. Afraid Lin Cheng would continue, she hurriedly pushed Chen Zishi, “You go back to your seat first.”
Sitting beside Lin Cheng, He Yueyue still frowned with anger.
They were deskmates, but a clearly drawn dividing line ran down the middle of their desks—it was hers, deliberately marking her territory.
But He Yueyue knew the more she treated Lin Cheng badly, the more he would cling to her.
Yet today…
“Yueyue, what’s wrong with Lin Cheng?”
Girls in the back row noticed something was off and quietly asked He Yueyue.
“How would I know? He must be out of his mind! Acting crazy!” He Yueyue feigned indifference, “Hmph, I don’t care.”
Though she said this outwardly, inside she was quietly uneasy.
Lin Cheng must be jealous!
Recently, she had indeed been spending more time with Chen Zishi—after school, during gym class—and had ignored Lin Cheng.
But it was because they were discussing the school anniversary performance! They had serious business! Unlike Lin Cheng, who had nothing going on and just followed her around. And now he had the nerve to get jealous and act distant?
The more He Yueyue thought about it, the angrier she became, moving her chair further away from Lin Cheng.
No matter how much he apologized, she wouldn’t pay him any attention in this class!
Unexpectedly, at that moment, the homeroom teacher walked in, and Lin Cheng immediately raised his hand.
“Teacher, I want to change seats,” he said coldly.
