Chapter One: You Scoundrel, I Am Your Sister-in-Law
Lo Yunmian had just finished using the restroom. She turned on the faucet and lightly rubbed her hands together. Raising her eyes absentmindedly, she caught sight of a pair of slender, well-defined hands offering her a tissue.
She accepted the tissue and casually wiped her hands a few times. Then she turned, resting her back gently against the sink.
“I never would’ve guessed that chubby kid from childhood is Brother Ting Shen’s younger brother.”
“I didn’t expect Sister Mianmian to be my cousin’s fiancée either.”
The young man had a sharply defined face, bearing a resemblance to Fu Tingshen, but with a more youthful, vibrant aura. A single tear mole at the corner of his eye softened his otherwise intense features.
His gaze held undisguised affection, fleeting yet unmistakable—and Lo Yunmian caught it.
“Yan Chi, do you like me?”
Fu Yan Chi’s eyes flickered with a hint of panic but quickly steadied. Meeting her gaze without hesitation, he nodded.
“Yes, I’ve always liked you.”
Lo Yunmian hadn’t expected such a straightforward admission. Her expression turned noticeably colder. Adopting a sisterly tone, she spoke clearly and deliberately.
“Yan Chi, you’re still young. There are many feelings you might not understand yet, so it’s all blurry. But I’m about to marry your brother, so…”
Before she could finish, Fu Yan Chi took a sudden step forward, cornering her. He leaned in slightly, his eyes burning with passion and stubbornness.
“Sister Mianmian, I can give you more happiness than Brother Ting Shen.”
In the next instant, Fu Yan Chi’s hand pressed against her neck, and he kissed her lips.
Terror surged through Lo Yunmian. She struggled desperately, and in her panic, bit down hard.
Fu Yan Chi winced in pain and released her, his gaze still fixed intently on her.
Lo Yunmian’s almond-shaped eyes were bright and round, exuding an irresistibly cute charm. When she smiled, her delicate features paired with a high nose bridge radiated warmth; when she didn’t, she was cool and captivating.
Now, her cheeks flushed with anger, her fair face flushed pink. Her long hair, tangled from the struggle, framed eyes filled with fury and caution.
“You bastard! I’m your sister-in-law. How dare you behave like this?”
She wiped her lips vigorously, glancing anxiously around. Thankfully, no one was nearby—otherwise, how could she explain?
But the culprit remained oblivious, stubborn and domineering.
“You’re not even married yet. And even if you were, I wouldn’t mind.”
“Are you crazy?”
Lo Yunmian couldn’t help but slap him, her anger causing her eyelashes to tremble.
Fu Yan Chi pressed his tongue to the wound on his mouth, tasting the coppery sweetness.
“Yes, I have lovesickness.”
“You promised me, Sister Mianmian, that you would marry me. Why did you go back on your word?”
“That was just childish nonsense.”
Lo Yunmian turned to face the mirror and tidied her hair. When she spoke again, her tone was distant and warning.
“You’ve been out too long. Let’s go back to the dining room. I hope you forget what just happened. There’s absolutely no chance between us.”
With that, Lo Yunmian turned and left first.
Fu Yan Chi’s eyes curved into a smile as he watched her graceful figure recede, a soft chuckle escaping his throat. Then he straightened and followed.
They arrived back at the dining room one after the other.
“Where did you go so long?” Fu Tingshen asked politely, handing her a glass of juice.
“Thanks. I just took a phone call,” Lo Yunmian replied with a casual excuse.
Fu Tingshen’s eyes inadvertently swept over her slightly swollen lips. Curiosity crept into his voice.
“Yunmian, what happened to your lips?”
Lo Yunmian’s heart clenched sharply. She quickly grabbed a tissue and subtly wiped her lips, avoiding his gaze with a feigned nonchalance.
“Nothing.”
Fu Yan Chi sauntered over slowly, one hand in his pocket, eyes flickering to Lo Yunmian’s lips with a half-smile.
“I know what just happened to Sister Mianmian.”
Both gazes turned to her—one amused as if watching a show, the other filled with concern.
Lo Yunmian’s heart tightened. She instinctively looked at Fu Yan Chi across the table, her eyes pleading.
“Sister Mianmian, my mouth is a bit dry. Can you pour me some juice?”
As he spoke, the young man’s gaze casually swept over her lips, a hidden meaning shimmering in his eyes before resting naturally on the glass of orange juice beside her right hand.
Lo Yunmian caught the deliberate emphasis on the word “mouth,” laden with innuendo.
Reluctantly, she picked up the juice. As she grasped the cup, Fu Yan Chi stretched out his right leg, inching toward her skirt. His trouser leg brushed her calf, then slowly moved upward, stopping at her thigh.
Startled by the sudden move, Lo Yunmian’s hand trembled, nearly spilling the juice. A few drops splattered onto the tablecloth.
“What’s wrong?” Fu Tingshen noticed.
Lo Yunmian’s heart leapt to her throat. She hurriedly grabbed a tissue to wipe the table, forcing a calm laugh.
“Nothing. I just suddenly remembered a company document I forgot to have Brother Ting Shen sign.”
“No big deal. Signing it tomorrow is fine too.”
Fu Yan Chi casually took the cup, sipped, and remarked, “It’s really sweet.”
His eyes shifted slightly, now fixed on the corner of her lips.
The intensity of his gaze was impossible for Lo Yunmian to ignore.
“Sweetness must always be kept in moderation.”
Fu Yan Chi caught the underlying message and was forced to relent.
Impossible.
As if deliberately punishing her, he pressed his leg back against hers at the thigh, preventing her from moving an inch.
The warmth radiated through his casual pants, transferring to Lo Yunmian’s body.
She shivered uncontrollably, as if electric currents surged through her—tingling and intoxicating.
Unbidden, she recalled the kiss she had tried to forget moments ago in the restroom.
Fu Tingshen, however, seized upon his earlier question and asked again.
Fu Yan Chi chuckled lowly, noticing her obvious unease.
Unhurried, he changed the subject.
“I saw Sister Mianmian sneaking soup from the kitchen that Auntie made. She burned her mouth.”
“Why are you so addicted to Yun’s cooking?” Fu Tingshen teased, smiling.
Lo Yunmian visibly relaxed.
“I just wanted to see if I could learn to make it.”
“Feel free to come over anytime—you know we live so close.”
Fu Tingshen’s casual remarks put Lo Yunmian completely at ease, though she still feared Fu Yan Chi might cause trouble.
Lo Yunmian lived in her grandmother’s villa, separated from Fu Tingshen’s by only one building. Their families had a long-standing friendship.
Snapping back to the moment, she heard Fu Tingshen ask Fu Yan Chi a question.
She looked up and met his exquisite face: a sharp jawline, long, thick eyelashes fluttering slightly.
He smiled brightly, appearing innocent and harmless.
“I came back because the girl I like betrayed me.”
Lo Yunmian inexplicably connected that “girl” to herself.
But she never loved him in the first place—how could there be betrayal?
